The work of First Move is supported by a group of volunteers. They help out with a range of task from helping deliver and collect furniture, serving customers in the warehouse, repair and restoring furniture, standing it to help cover the office when needed, cooking for volunteers and helping maintain the overall running of the project. People with particular skills or training also contribute to the project.
On average, volunteers contribute a combined 160 hours a week to the project. Why they volunteer varies. Some volunteers are retired and being at the project keeps them active and productive. They also provide wonderful role models to younger volunteers. Some are unemployed and are helping out in between jobs. Others are unable to work due to some form of disability but are keen to do something.
Often we see growth in people who have helped us and move on to other projects or employment. We try to give back to volunteers by recognising the work they do at the project entails some form of training and experience gained. First Move is always in need of volunteers.
So if you can spare couple of hours a week, here is what we have to offer:-

WORKSHOP -

We need people to help with renovation of furniture. This includes minor repair of furniture, stripping and staining of old furniture. Experience in DIY, carpentry are desirable.
STORE ASSISTANT -
Minimum commitment 5 to 10 hours per week (weekdays, 10am to 3pm).
